September 25th

Yeah...the sun shone all day!!!!  And it was beautiful, I had a whole new attitude today.

We drove down the 101 again and stopped at some new places.  We walked a couple of beaches, one was all round rock and very hard to walk on, but there were tide pools I wanted to check out.  The tide was coming in, so couldn't stay long.  I did get lots of excersise as the one trail to the beach was almost a mile and there must have been a hundred steps going down,  and then you have to go back up.  That was the killer...I was ready to sit when I got back to the truck.  We did see a couple of different lighthouses along the way

There were 3 of these Harbour Seals swimming around 

Yaquina Head lighthouse...stands 162 feet above sea level. The 93 foot high tower is the tallest on the OR coast.  It was first illuminated in 1873

Heceta Head lighthouse sits 205 ft above the ocean.  It was first illuminated in 1894, today it's automated becon is rated as the strongest light on the OR coast and can be seen 21 miles from land

This is a jelly fish, we saw lots of them on the beach yesterday.  I think they are interesting.

September 24th

We drove into Newport this morning and had breakfast at McDonalds and used their wi-fi to send off my blog.  We are parked in a spot where we are surrounded by tall trees. Thick enough that you can't see the RV s parked next to you.  I love it, but it's not so good for phone service.  I am able to send a text, but can't call.  

We drove down the coast today and stopped at most of the beaches and pull outs.  I love to watch the waves, but it would rain and then the sun would shine for a bit.  Not good for walking the beach or taking pictures.  I guess the rainy season has started here and it last until around March we are told.  They do get 8 feet of rain in this area,  in a year.  But in the rain forest area of Washington they get even more, around 11 or 12 feet.  I would much rather have our MN snows.   Several days of this rain is very depressing for both of us and we are ready for some AZ sun!!!  With no humidity!!!

Everything feels damp and the towels don't even dry out from the showers.  I don't like that!

But it is beautiful!!

September 22nd....Seaside, Oregon

Yesterday we traveled from Forks to Seaside, Oregon.  Found a RV park and spent the night. We had planned on leaving this morning but there was a storm with lots of rain and wind so we just stayed around here today.  We are driving the 101 highway which follows the ocean coast.  There is rain predicted for almost everyday this week so it may not be very pleasant.  

We did go for a drive out to a couple of ocean beachs today and watched the waves and surf coming in.  It was pretty wild, it was raining and to windy to walk the beach tho.  

September 23rd

We left this morning and drove to Beverly Beach state park.  Just a 100 miles.  We plan on staying here until Thursday morning.  It's a nice park and it does have access to the beach.  We will leave the RV parked and do day trips from here.  It has been raining off and on all day so hoping we have some sun tomorrow.

September 19th

We are still in Forks and today we drove up to Neah Bay, and on up to Cape Flattery Trail.  

We hiked to the northwest tip of the lower 48.  It was a 3/4 of a mile hike down, but the whole way down I was thinking about the long hike up.  I did have to stop several times and rest, but made it!!!

I'm sure my legs are going to be sore tomorrow, but it was worth the pain. 

It was beautiful as you will see in the pics.  We did see some sea lions soaking up the sun on a big rock out in the ocean, but to far away to get a good pic.

The hiking path, when we got toward the bottom there were a lot of steps ( especially on the way up, or did it just seem that way.

September 18....Forks, Wa

We are just a few miles from Rialto Beach, so drove out there today and spent most of the afternoon  just watching the waves crash into shore.  I walked the beach and picked up pretty little rocks.  Didn't find many shells tho.  All along the beach there were giant drift logs.  It was a fun day and the warm sunny weather was perfect.

September 17th

We stayed in Port Angeles at the Walmart until this morning.  We did some sightseeing around there, drove up to Hurricane ridge in the Olympia National Park on Sat.  We had warm sunny weather.

But Sunday it rained off and on all day, so we pretty much just hung out in the RV and did some reading.   Yesterday we drove down to Port Townsend and met a old? High school friend for lunch. She recently moved from MN, out to that area to be with her daughter and family.  Was so nice to see her again.

We drove to Forks this morning and found a RV park.  It was less then 50 miles, it was a narrow, windy road tho so took a little longer, but I like those short trips!!

This afternoon we drove to the Hoh Rain Forest and did some hiking and sightseeing. The average rainfall there is 142 inches.  The trees can grow up to 300 ft and as much as 23 or more ft around.  

There were some really big ones and moss is hanging from everything.  It's really kind of fascinating and a little eerie.
