From the Alyeska Hwy we drove over to Whittier on the Portage Glacier Road. From here we could see glaciers. All I can say is WOW!! To get into Whittier we had to drive thru a one lane 2 1/2 mile tunnel. so on the 1/2 hour traffic could go thru to Whittier and on the hour back out.
Whittier is the gateway to prince William sound. The town has 220 people. There is a large harbor. And u can take the ferry to Valdez and Cordova. A lot of glacier cruises go from the harbor.
We had a late lunch at one of the little seafood restaurants. We both had fresh Halibut and it was really good.
