Aug 17....stIll in Valdez

Gosh, it's been a while since I have written.   We left the RV park  this morning and moved to a state park outside of town.  It has only a few sites and they are all right on Prince William Sound.  Buck is able to walk down the bank and fish, and I have a beautiful view of the water.
We have enjoyed Valdez, it is a town of about 4,000 and is right on the harbor of Prince William sound.  There are at least two canneries, so it looks like a lot of commercial fishing.  We have seen several fishing boats unloading.
The 1964 earthquake hit Valdez and killed 30 people, most of them were on the dock, unloading a ship when it started.  They found that the town was built on land that was not stable enough.  It had to be rebuilt 4 miles further up.  Some of the houses were able to be moved, the buildings that weren't were all burned within 2 years following the quake.
We have done some sightseeing, although Valdez is at the end of the road, so not many places to drive to off the highway.

Horsetail waterfalls, just off the highway

I thought this was so pretty, a wall of flowers

This was the townsite before the earthquake
The names of people that were killed

The site of the post office
The old townsite is all grown over, looking out where the harbor had been
